We
do have some groups of good skiers who take in
the best of the black/red runs in one of each
of these areas each day. When doing this it is
best to take a guide in order to achieve the maximum.
We can arrange this for you.
For those who are fit and enjoy ski touring, the
valley offers many beautiful routes, including
part of the famous GR5 from the Swiss border above
Samoëns through Sixt, over the Désert
de Platé and down the Brévent to
Chamonix. Praz-de-Lys and Agy, just above the
farmhouse, are very good cross-country ski areas.
All equipment for this activity, including crampons,
skins and special bindings can be hired. If you
wish to practise other winter activities like
snow- boarding, heli-skiing or parapenting, we
can arrange this for you.
The Pistes
The farmhouse is only a couple of minutes by car
from the télécabine at Morillon,
taking you straight up into the ski domaine of
the Grand-Massif. It is the fastest lift to the
pistes and from the top of the télécabine
there are now two separate chairs going straight
to the top.
Samoëns, Morillon, Les Carroz and Sixt are
all linked at the Plateau Des Saix with Flaine
forming the Grand-Massif. It is one of the largest
and most beautiful ski circuits in the Alps. There
are some 350kms of downhill skiing of all levels
and a vast amount of cross-country skiing on specially
traced pistes.
The new cable-car climbing to Samoens 1600 directly
from the village has had a tremendous effect,
relieving pressure on Vercland. The new eight
person chair returning from Flaine is really incredible.
From Vernant the return to Morillon, Samoëns
or Les Carroz is now extremely easy.
Cascade
Piste
The new extension of the Lac de Gers piste from
the summit of Flaine to the village of Sixt is
approximately 16kms & one of the longest and
most beautiful runs in Europe. Lunch at the lake
in the refuge is very enjoyable. It is very wild
and totally unspoilt; you may well see chamois
just at the edge of the piste. A free bus service
will return you to the appropriate télécabine.
Snow
Conditions
The whole area has an excellent snow record as
many of the pistes are north facing and hold the
snow well. Due to its close proximity to the north-west
side of Mont-Blanc, the Grand Massif is always
among the top three ski areas for its snow depth.
The tree runs of Morillon and Les Carroz offer
excellent skiing for beginners and intermediates,
while Samoëns and Flaine are superb for those
serious black pistes skiers.
The off-piste possibilities are formidable and
extensive.
Lessons
& Guiding
We organise lessons and guiding for adults and
children on both a small group or one-to-one basis.
Individual lessons can help skiers make tremendous
progress within one week.
